Diabetes frequently causes nutritional deficiencies, often initiated by changes in diet or medications. As a result, people with diabetes can benefit greatly from the use of IV Therapy and nutritional supplements. Diabetics often suffer from dehydration and are deficient in water soluble vitamins. As their body tries to eliminate excess sugar with frequent urination, important vitamins are also lost. The absorption rate of oral vitamins is only about 30%, meaning that you are not absorbing about 70% of the vitamins you are taking by mouth! The most effective way to replace water soluble vitamins is through intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) Therapy at Revival IV Lounge. With IV Therapy, the vitamins are absorbed directly into your bloodstream so you are able to utilize 100% of the vitamin.

Important vitamins for Diabetics

Niacin (Vitamin B3):

Researchers from the University of Iowa have discovered that Niacin helps lower blood sugar, reduce fatty liver, and prevent neuropathy with diabetes type 2. Those with the highest risk of a vitamin B3 Niacin deficiency are those who consume a diet of mostly processed foods. Sugary foods, processed grains, white bread, white flour, wheat products and corn syrup can cause inadequate Niacin levels.

Foods rich in Niacin: Turkey, chicken breast, mushrooms, liver, grass fed beef, green peas, sunflower seeds, and avocado.

Vitamin B6

Diabetics with kidney issues are often found to have too much of the harmful chemical homocysteine in their blood. B-vitamin therapy – with folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 have been shown to lower the blood levels of homocysteine. Vitamin B6 also plays an important role in making the hormones serotonin and norepinephrine, known as “happy hormones” that help to control mood, energy and concentration.

Foods rich in B6: turkey, grass fed beef, pistachios, pinto beans, avocado, chicken breast, blackstrap molasses, sunflower and sesame seeds.

At Revival IV, Niacin and B6 are included in our vitamin B Complex which is in most of our IV vitamin drips and shots.

Vitamin C

Ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, is a potent antioxidant with increasingly diverse uses in health promotion and disease prevention. According to a report published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, diabetes mellitus may lower serum vitamin C concentrations in the blood. Recent studies have shown that vitamin C supplementation in people who are taking metformin has shown a reduction in Hemoglobin AIC levels. Vitamin C also has a myriad of health benefits including: helps boost immunity, powerful antioxidant properties, improves heart health, and promotes glowing skin. Vitamin C supplements also dramatically combat the oxidative damage caused by smoking and exposure to tobacco smoke.

Foods rich in vitamin C: kiwi, bell pepper, orange, strawberry, papaya, pineapple, grapefruit, broccoli, brussel sprouts, mango, tomatoes, spinach.

At Revival IV Lounge our IV Vitamin drips contain vitamin C. Try our Super Immunity drip for an extra immune boost loaded with vitamin C.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is an important water soluble vitamin that benefits your mood, energy level, memory, heart, skin, hair, digestion and more. Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin for addressing adrenal fatigue and maintaining healthy nervous and cardiovascular systems. Having diabetes can increase your risk of having a B-12 deficiency as it may be a side effect of the drug metformin. If you are taking certain drugs for acid reflex (GERD) or peptic ulcer disease, those drugs may be inhibiting you from absorbing B12 as well.

Foods rich in B12: organic grass-fed dairy products, cage-free eggs, grass-fed meat, wild-caught fish, organic poultry and organ meats.

The best way to absorb vitamin B12 is to bypass the gut and get an IM injection or IV therapy. At Revival IV we only offer the most active methylated form of B12 in our IV vitamin infusions and B12 shots.

Magnesium is a mineral that plays a central role in just about every bodily process, from the synthesis of DNA to the metabolism of insulin. Low levels of magnesium have even been tied to chronic conditions like Alzheimer’s, diabetes and heart disease. Magnesium is also an essential mineral in the regulation of blood sugar. A deficiency can cause insulin resistance, which leads to greater amounts of insulin needed to maintain their blood sugar within normal levels.

Foods high in magnesium include: spinach, swiss chard, dark chocolate, pumpkin seeds, almonds, black beans, avocado, figs, yogurt, and bananas.

At Revival IV, we have several drips containing magnesium including: the Myers Cocktail, the Revitalizer, the Chillax, the Brain Reboot, the Migraine Buster and the Athletic Recovery drip.

Vitamin D

We all know that calcium is a building block for strong bones, and calcium needs the presence of vitamin D to be effective. One of the complications faced by people with diabetes is loss of bone density. A deficiency of vitamin D puts them at greater risk of fractures and osteoporosis. A shortage of vitamin D also changes blood sugar levels, making it more difficult to control diabetes. Vitamin D deficiency can result in muscle weakness, increased rates of infection, increased risk of falling, bone discomfort, and aches and pains in the joints and muscles.

Sources of vitamin D: The major source of vitamin D for most people is exposure to sunlight. Only a few foods naturally contain significant amounts of vitamin D. Those that do include fatty fish such as wild caught salmon, mackerel, and herring and fish oils such as cod liver oil.

If you know you are low in vitamin D, come see us at Revival IV lounge for a quick vitamin D shot!
